Our first day in Beijing

We woke up nice and early, 4:00 a.m.! I guess it will take a little while to get changed to their time. We had a great breakfast at the hotel. They have a buffet, we had omelets, toast, pastries, fruit and potatoes. First we went to the City Planning Museum. Our guides name is Ming. He is 28 and not much bigger than Jordan! He is really nice and helpful. We watched a movie about the history of Beijing and saw several exhibits about the city. It is a huge city, we were told 20 million people! There are no homes mainly apartments. Everywhere you look there are high rise apartment buildings. The traffic is unlike anything I have ever seen. Cars buses, bikes, scooters, people walking all on the same road! It is amazing that people are not run over. It is a little scary riding in the van!

We then went to Tian Anman Square. It was extremely crowded. Ming told us that there were about ten times the people there that are normally there because of the national holiday. It was decorated for the holiday. There were big displays from each of the 35 provinces of China. The Chinese people seemed very proud of their country.

After lunch we went to the Temple of Heaven. This is were the emperor's went to pray for the crops for the year. It was a whole complex of buildings and structures. It was beautiful. The crowds were large here also. There were gardens at the end of the complex. People were everywhere. They were just hanging out, playing cards, singing, dancing, playing the Chinese version on Hackey Sack. It was a great place to people watch, although I think people were also watching us! We didn't see many non-Chinese people.

We were really tired this afternoon. We came back to the hotel and napped! Hopefully we will feel more rested tomorrow. We are enjoying getting to know China, but we can't wait for Monday when we get to meet Eden! It is hard to wait! Love to everyone, Jonathan, Sheila and Jordan

Only a few more days until you finally get to meet Eden Grace. We can't wait to see pictures of Gotcha Day. Nat keeps asking if Miss Sheila has her walking baby yet.
